What does rotating an image do?
Rotating an image turns it around its center by a chosen angle — most commonly a 90° quarter-turn to fix a photo that was shot or scanned sideways, but sometimes a small fine-tuning angle to straighten a slightly tilted horizon. Unlike flipping (which mirrors an image), rotating preserves the image's actual orientation of shapes and text, just reoriented. A 90°/180°/270° rotation is pixel-perfect; any other angle requires resampling, which slightly softens edges.
Fixing a sideways or upside-down photo
Phone photos and scanned documents often come out sideways. Click 90° left or 90° right once — whichever direction makes the image upright — and download. If a photo is fully upside down, click either button twice for a 180° turn.
Fine-tuning an angle
For a slightly tilted horizon or a crooked scan, drag the Fine angle slider instead of using the quick 90° buttons. Because the rotated rectangle no longer lines up with a straight frame at non-90° angles, the output canvas is automatically sized to fit the whole rotated image without cropping any corners — the gaps left in the corners can stay transparent or be filled with a solid background.
Rotate vs flip
Rotating spins the whole image around its center; the content stays geometrically identical, just reoriented. Flipping mirrors the image across an axis, reversing asymmetric details like text. What happens at the corners when I rotate to a non-90° angle?
Rotating to an angle that isn't a multiple of 90° leaves triangular gaps at the corners of the new bounding box, since the original rectangle no longer lines up with the frame. By default those gaps stay transparent; turn off Transparent background to fill them with white instead.
Will rotating reduce my image quality?
90°/180°/270° rotations are pixel-exact with no quality loss. Rotating to any other angle resamples the image (the same way any image editor does), which can introduce slight softening at the edges — this is unavoidable geometry, not a limitation of this tool specifically.
