Why replace a color in a PNG?
Recoloring a PNG in place — swapping one specific color for another while leaving everything else untouched — comes up constantly: retheming an icon set, matching a logo to a new brand palette, adjusting a UI mockup screenshot, or fixing a single wrong swatch in exported artwork. Doing this in a full image editor usually means a magic-wand selection plus a hue/fill layer; this tool collapses that into two color pickers and a couple of sliders.
Tolerance — matching more than an exact color
Real PNGs rarely use one perfectly uniform color — compression artifacts, anti-aliasing, and gradients mean the "same" color is really a small cluster of nearby shades. Tolerance widens the match from an exact hex value to everything within a color distance of it, so a whole region gets caught even if it isn't perfectly flat. Start low and raise it until the whole area you want is covered without pulling in colors you want to keep.
Preserving shades vs a flat replacement
With Preserve Color Shades off, every matched pixel becomes the exact same replacement color — a flat, uniform fill. With it on, each matched pixel keeps its original lightness and only its hue shifts to the replacement color, so gradients, highlights, and shadows in the source region carry over into the new color instead of being flattened out.
Smooth edges and preview mode
Make Edges Smooth anti-aliases the boundary between replaced and untouched pixels instead of leaving a hard, jagged cutoff — the Edge Refinement Radius controls how wide that soft transition is. Before committing to a replacement, flip on Preview From Color to see exactly which pixels the current color and tolerance settings would match, highlighted over the original image.

How do I change colors in a PNG online?

What does the Tolerance setting do?
Tolerance controls how similar a pixel's color has to be to your chosen color before it gets replaced. At 0% only an exact color match is replaced. Raising it matches nearby shades too — useful for anti-aliased or slightly gradient-shaded source colors that aren't perfectly uniform.
What does Preserve Color Shades do?
When on, matched pixels keep their original lightness and only their hue changes to the replacement color — so shading, gradients, and highlights in the original color are preserved in the new color. When off, every matched pixel becomes the exact same flat replacement color.
Why does the replaced area look blocky, and how do I fix it?
Turn on Make Edges Smooth to anti-alias the boundary between replaced and untouched pixels instead of a hard cutoff. The Edge Refinement Radius slider controls how wide that soft transition is — higher values blend a wider band around the edge.
What does Preview From Color show?
